School Curriculum

As a former teacher and administrator Dr. Kim-Meneen has been involved with curriculum/content/program development and public engagement and she does not support the proposed new curriculum.

Her honest view on the new curriculum is that, she feels we are going backwards and not being progressive and offering content and opportunities to students that would benefit them as they search, inquire, and learn to become who they are meant to be in future. There are lots of facts to memorize, content that is not age appropriate, and assessment that is archaic.

Even though she is secondary trained teacher (anxiously waiting for the Gr. 7-9 draft curriculum to come out) she’s up to date on all the issues and recommendations for the K-12 curriculum and she had informal and formal meetings with other administrators and teachers on the curriculum and most recently met with Minister LaGrange with other administrators opposing the draft curriculum.

Dr. Kim-Meneen states that Alberta curriculum has always been a contender to be used in other provinces, territories and countries; however that is not the case now which is another indicator that the curriculum does not meet the standards. She strongly feels that students and teachers have had rough 1.5 years of virtual/in school education and adding a new questionable curriculum to the mix is not right. As a parent of two school age kids and seeing their education experience and supporting them best I can. She strongly believe we need to slow down a bit to give students and teachers to “catch up” and listen to them, parents, and community on what is needed.

School Programs

Dr. Kim-Meneen challenges herself to develop educational programs that allow personal growth and opportunities to go forward in life. She strongly believes that learning; growth, development and fun are all in one category.

She believes that holistic and wrap around services are crucial to break intergenerational trauma and to support any student to reach their full potential. She is honored to work in a field where she has the opportunity to support children and their families to realize their strengths and go after their dreams.

She continuously works to develop and foster a learning environment where children and their families will be given every opportunity to express their individuality.

Anti-Bullying

Growing up Dr. Kim-Meneen has experienced bullying and racism as a child of a racial minority living in a small town. Her young daughter and her friends have already experienced bullying in their schools and the problem is growing every year.

As a society and as our technology gets more developed and sophisticated tactics of bullying, racial slurs, and discrimination is enhanced where sometimes it does not even feel or seem like bullying, racism, or discrimination. However, for those intended targets they feel the hate and the feelings of not being good enough and not wanted builds; which leads to children and youth building walls closing themselves off from their family and society leading to them falling through the gaps or ultimately tragedy occurs.

We need to do better, we need to stop talking about the issue, we need to find a solution, we need to ACT. Dr. Judy Kim-Meneen is very committed to be part of a team that is solution focused and ready to do what is necessary to combat this growing problem.
